Details

Julie McLeod is an Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Education at the University of Melbourne, where she convenes the Strategic Research Program in 'Education, Equity and Social Identities'. She has taught extensively in undergraduate, pre-service and graduate courses in the sociology of education and qualitative methodology. Her areas of research include gender and youth studies, socio-cultural and historical studies of subjectivity, curriculum and schooling, equity and difference in education, and social and feminist theory in education. She is co-author (with Cherry Collins and Jane Kenway) of Factors Influencing the Educational Performance of Males and Females at School and their Initial Destinations after Leaving School, DETYA 2000); co-editor (with Andrea Allard) of Learning from the Margins: Young women, social exclusion and education (2007 RoutledgeFalmer); and co-author with Rachel Thomson, Researching Social Change: Qualitative Approaches (Sage, 2009). A co-authored book with Lyn Yates, Making Modern Lives: Subjectivity, Schooling and Social Change (2006, State University of New York Press) is based on their landmark qualitative, longitudinal study of secondary school students 'The 12 to 18 Project'.
