Crozier, Michael Paul

In 2009, Michael Crozier became a Chief Investigator on LE0989083 - Australian Social Science Data Archive: Provision of Advanced Infrastructure and Collaborative Environment (2009 - ). As part of this LIEF Grant, the ASSDA Melbourne node (ESRC) is researching Michael Crozier's research records from two ARC projects - Communicating Power: Political consultants, symbolic production and media democracy (1998-2000); and Political Science and the Nation-Building State (2004-2006).

During his work as the single chief investigator on these projects, Michael Crozier was Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Melbourne.

Details

Michael was educated at Monash University and La Trobe University, and taught political science at Monash University and sociology at Deakin University. He was a visiting research fellow at the Australian National University, McMaster University (Canada), University of Padua (Italy), and Queens University (Canada).

After becoming Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Melbourne he worked on areas of research including political communication, network society, and the history and theory of the social sciences. He has published on political and social theory, Australian political culture, the development of the social sciences in Australia, and on garden theory.

From 1998 to 2000, Michael Crozier was the single chief investigator on the project "Political Science and the Nation-Building State" (ARC Large Research Grants Program: A79803328). Subsequently, from 2004 to 2006, he was the single chief investigator on the ARC Discovery project "Communicating power: Political consultants, symbolic production and media democracy" (Project ID: DP0450924). His findings on the latter project included the recognition of a significant shift in the nature and purpose of communication in political parties and related organisations, and his work in this area continued beyond the formal closing date of the ARC project.

As of 2009, Michael Crozier was Chair of Postgraduate Coursework/Honours, Honours/Postgraduate Diploma Coordinator and Student Advisor (Political Science, Criminology and Sociology). and a representative on the Graduate Studies Committee.
